Public administration as an example in reducing emissions and saving energy
Description/achievement of initiativeLocal and national goverments are the engine of economic policies of a country and they also set the sustanibility framework in which they are developed. In Catalonia the authorities lead efforts in becoming the best example in reducing emissions and saving energy, as shown below.
The Directorate General for Environmental Policies (Ministry of Territory and Sustainability, Government of Catalonia) with the Voluntary agreements to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG) Programme; the Girona Provincial Council with the Covenant of Mayors, a promotion programme for combating climate change in the Girona region; the Barcelona Metropolitan Area with the Carbon management Strategy 2011-2015; the Barcelona Provincial Council with the European Local Energy Assistance (ELENA) and the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energies Programme (ERDIBA); and finally the Barcelona City Council with the Promotion of the District Heating & Cooling (DH&C) network in the city of Barcelona, and the Barcelona City Council Plan for Energy Saving and Efficiency in Municipal Buildings (PEMEEM).
