Deliverables & Resources
Establishment of Internet-based registry on Sustainable Development in Action
Partner(s)
United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA)
Description/achievement of initiative
To make information about Rio+20 voluntary initiatives for sustainable development fully transparent and accessible to the public, as well facilitate access to other registries that have compiled voluntary initiatives. Registries include voluntary commitments made for Rio+20, the database of Partnerships for Sustainable Development (CSD11/WSSD), Secretary-General's Sustainable Energy for All (SE4All) and Every Woman Every Child initiatives, database on Green Economy policies, commitments from Higher Education Sustainability Initiative and from the UN Global Compact.
The registry will allow all stakeholders to update and maintain their own entries, as well include functions for reporting back on progress of voluntary initiatives.
Implementation methodologies
The registry will be developed by the Rio+20 Secretariat/Division for Sustainable Development, United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, and will be part of the website that was launched in follow-up to Rio+20, the Sustainable Development Knowledge Platform, http://sustainabledevelopment.un.org.
