Maternal Health Improvement Program in The Gambia

Description/achievement of initiative
This program will help The Gambia improve the quality of its maternal health services by providing teacher training and building capacity among midwives, as well as upgrading the quality of service at second-level health facilities in the Upper River Region.
Implementation methodologies
(1) Provide a Senior Nursing and Midwifery Personnel Training Program in the ROC.
(2) Provide Community Nurses/Midwives Training Courses and Newly Appointed Traditional Birth Attendants Training Courses in The Gambia.
(3) Select Gambian nursing or midwifery students in the ROC, who are recipients of the TaiwanICDF International Higher Education Scholarship, to work as assistants on Component 2 courses during their summer vacation.
(4) Improve the service capacity of 11 health centers in the Upper River Region.
