Sustainable development projectsof UNESCO Chair of Nizhny Novgorod State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering«Sustainable development of a big region – the Volga river basin»Projects and directions of scientific research conducted by scientific-pedagogical school «Ecological safety of regions»(Head of the School: UNESCO Chairholder, doctor of technical sciences, Professor Koposov E.V.):• Study and impact assessment of plain reservoirs for sustainability of the development of urbanized territories• The development of the concept of geo-ecological safety of big cities in Volga Caspian region including the assessment of their vulnerability to dangerous engineering – geological processes• Detection and broadcasting of natural and anthropogenic disasters, mathematical modeling of river – flood development and hydrodynamic accidents at hydroelectric complexes for the detection of areas flooded• Study of the complex of nature and social problems arising in conditions of changing of the climate in Volga – Caspian basin• The development of the methodological basis for creation of complex systems of water consumption by food and light industry enterprises• The development of the scientific basis and technologies of protection of the urbanized territories from nature and anthropogenic disasters and negative effects• The development of methods of risk assessment of dangerous slide erosion and karst events at the urbanized territories• Study of dynamics of karst and ravine systems at the urbanized territories with the help of the elements of fractal analysis• The assessment of influence of urban territories for the state of ravine surface sources of water supply• The development of methodology of complex functional and sustainable development of biosphere reserves territories and nature safety complexes in conditions of technogenesis
