One Planet Living - a global corporate commitment to 100% sustainable timber by 2020
Partner(s)
Kingfisher plc
Description/achievement of initiative
Kingfisher commit to 100% responsibly sourced timber and paper in all our operations by 2020. Responsibly sourced timber is from 'proven well-managed forests or recycled sources' according to Kingfisher's Timber Policy Standard.
Implementation methodologies
Kingfisher commit to 100% responsibly sourced timber and paper in all our operations by 2020. Responsibly sourced timber is from 'proven well-managed forests or recycled sources' according to Kingfisher's Timber Policy Standard.
This is the first such commitment from a retail group of this size. It is significant because it shows that businesses are willing to take bold, measurable, reportable and verifiable steps towards achieving sustainability within a short timeframe.
Kingfisher has been working with BioRegional, the social enterprise whose One Planet Living framework was adopted by B&Q, Kingfisher's largest operating company in the UK. Last year B&Q became the first retailer of its size to guarantee that all the wood in its products is independently verified and responsibly sourced and the parent group company is now set to expand this pioneering UK commitment across their global operations.
Annually, Kingfisher uses timber from an area the size of Switzerland.
