Description/achievement of initiative
The organizers make a commitment to ensure that the following three interconnected issues will be part of Ukraine's official proposals for Rio+20:
- initiation of the development of the World Environmental Constitution;
- establishment of the World Environmental Organization;
- implementation of the greening of education for sustainable development process.
This would eliminate the main reason for the unsatisfactory implementation of the "Rio-92" decisions.
Organizers also commit to use its results and the Rio+20 Dialogues mechanism to promote this unified package among Rio+20 participants in order to include it in the final document of the Summit.
Implementation methodologies
International Institute-Association of Regional Ecological Problems (IIAREP) initiated the scientific substantiation of the World Environmental Constitution (WEC) idea (which includes as an integral part the establishment of the World Environmental Organization (WEO)) in 1992 and promoted its promulgation on behalf of Ukraine during the 19th Special Session of UN General Assembly Rio+5 in 1997. The idea of establishing the WEO was also announced at Rio+5 in Joint Declaration of Four Countries from Four Continents Brazil, Germany, South Africa and Singapore. These initiatives were officially renewed in later years on high political level at different fora (2007, 2008, 2009, 2011) and discussed at scientific conferences.
IIAREP experts make a voluntary commitment to ensure that the interconnected issues of WEO establishment, initiation of WEC development, and greening of education for sustainable development will be part of Ukraine's official proposals for Rio+20 Summit in a unified package.
The organizers of the side event "WORLD ENVIRONMENTAL CONSTITUTION: TOWARD A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE" also commit to use its outcomes and the Rio+20 Dialogues mechanism to promote this unified package among Rio+20 participants with the aim to include them in the final document of the Summit.
