Description/achievement of initiative
The College has achieved a great deal in the past few years, including establishing a Climate Action Committee charged with developing a climate action plan that could provide a roadmap to achieve carbon neutrality; the establishment of two subcommittees to increase sustainability topics into the curriculum and to address financial aspects of sustainability efforts; the reporting and tracking of sustainability efforts through ACUPCC and STARS; and partnering through community outreach.
Implementation methodologies
Our sustainability project between 2012 and 2015:
Engage the SUNY Cortland community in campus-wide dialog to develop a campus-wide definition of sustainability
Explore additional ways to incorporate sustainability topics into the curriculum
Increase community outreach through partnership in sustainability initiatives, e.g. Sustainable Cortland
Improve and update the campus sustainability webpage
Seek more ways for students to participate in sustainability initiatives
Continue to provide informational opportunities, e.g., Sustainability Week/Earth Week
Continue to observe ACUPCC and STARS reporting and tracking cycle submissions
Monitor and update Campus Climate Action Plan
Assign high priority to sustainability in future campus-wide construction projects, e.g., new residence hall and Student Life Center
