Stakeholders meeting to develop an Action Plan on Forests and the Green Economy
Stakeholders across the UNECE region are invited to participate in a discussion on developing an Action Plan on Forests and the Green Economy. A brainstorming and structured discussion in working groups will be organized by the UNECE/FAO Forestry and Timber Section, in cooperation with the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), on 10-11 May 2011 in Geneva.

Stakeholders active on forest-sector issues, comprising environmental NGOs, academia, research organizations and government representatives throughout the UNECE region (Western and Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, Central Asia and North America) are invited to join in the discussion and express their views.

At present, this Action Plan comprises the following focus areas:

- Sustainable Wood Consumption and Production
- Low carbon forest sector
- Valuation of and Payments for Ecosystem Services
- Monitoring and governance
- Green jobs.

The Action Plan, once finalized, will be reviewed by the UNECE Timber Committee and FAO European Forestry Commission at their joint session, 10-14 October 2011 in Antalya, Turkey. It will then be presented as a regional sectoral example at the Rio+20 summit in June 2012.
