UN-DESA/ Division for Sustainable Development Goals (DSDG), is co-leading the thematic review of SDG 4 which will be under review during the 2019 High-level Political Forum focusing on the theme Empowering people and ensuring inclusiveness and equality. The review is structured to identify progress made and challenges encountered in the implementation of SDG 4, and also to assess interlinkages with other SDGs.

As a central part of this review, the Global Education Meeting will be held in Brussels from 3 to 5 December 2018. The objective of the meeting will be to take stock of where we are in terms of progress towards SDG 4; to share knowledge about success stories, good practices and challenges; to identify particular areas of concern; and to suggest ways forward in terms of policies, partnerships and coordinated actions at all levels. These messages will help inform the HLPF, assist in planning its sessions, and serve to influence collaborations and programmes of work going forward from 2019.

In the interest of expanding understandings about the interlinkages between SDG 4 and the rest of the 2030 Agenda, DSDG is working with partners on panels and speakers for the meeting who can add insights on the relationship between quality education and progress on other SDGs (8, 10, 13, 16 and 17) under review during the 2019 HLPF. Additionally, guiding questions are being developed that can direct the discussions taken up in individual sessions toward interlinkages across the 2030 Agenda.
