The COVID-19 pandemic has brought a crisis of unprecedented significance to people’s health, jobs and lives globally. While the implementation of the SDGs will be severely challenged by the crisis, for trade unions it is clear that the SDGs are more relevant today than ever, providing the path towards resilient economies and inclusive societies. Trade unions will be amongst the main promoters worldwide of the “SDGs decade of action”, calling for a New Social Contract with SDG 8 at its core. Labour rights, decent work, social protection, inclusive growth, and just transition are key to rebuild our workplaces and economies and enhance the implementation of the whole Agenda 2030.
