Report of the Arab Consultative Meeting on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), 18-19 November 2013, Gammarth, Tunisia
ESCWA, 2013
by: Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA)

The Arab Consultative Meeting on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) was held in Gammarth, Tunisia on 18-19 November 2013 and brought together experts from across the economic, social and environmental dimensions, including professionals from Arab government agencies, regional and international organizations, and major groups’ representatives. The meeting provided a platform to inform Arab regional stakeholders on the international processes to date and to discuss a regional perspective on the SDGs in line with the Arab regional priorities and progress made on the MDGs.

The meeting revealed the need for ESCWA and its partners to develop, based on the outcomes of the 2013 post 2015 and SDGs consultative process, a regional SDGs proposal reflecting Arab perspectives, to be conveyed to the Open Working Group on SDGs as the region’s input to the international process. In addition, a common Arab point of view on SDGs should be further developed during the intergovernmental meeting to be convened in early 2014 in preparation for the next session of the High Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development.
