MoU: Cooperation on climate change vulnerability, adpatation and mitigation between Italy and the Caricom member States
Description/achievement of initiative

The MoU aims at creating a partnership between Italy and all Caricom member States and at the same time among Caricom member States themselves. With funding (6 million euros) provided by the Italian Government and technical assistance by the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre, projects for promoting sustainable energy and fighting climate change will be implemented nationally.

Implementation methodologies

Each Caricom State will submit a project to be carried out in its own country. After approval by the Joint Committee, the State will have full ownership over the implementation activities, with the optional technical assistance by the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre.

Arrangements for Capacity-Building and Technology Transfer

When requested, the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre will provide capacity building in the course of the implementing activities regarding the projects, namely as regards preparing and drafting the projects, implementing them and reporting on them.

Coordination mechanisms/governance structure

A Joint Committee will coordinate and oversee the implementation of the MoU and of the projects. The Joint Committee comprises all Permanent Representatives of Caricom countries in New York, the Permanent Representative of Italy in New York and a representative of Italy's Ministry of Environment.
