Description/achievement of initiative

In order to pursue the target of a sustainalbe development, the Università degli Studi Mediterranea of Reggio Calabria is currently involved in several research projects on clean energies or carbon emission control, such as: - future and high-efficiency concentration photovoltaic systems - frictionless wind generators based on magnetic levitation - power generation from seawaves and sea water streams - intelligent and low carbon impact buildings

Implementation methodologies

The University has also realized, or is currently commited to realize, the following initiatives: installation of a low power consuption lighting system within all the university buildings. The smart lighting system is based on fluorescent bulbs which are wireless connected each other for a centralized diagnostic and control installation of a grid connected photovoltaic plant capable of produncing a peak-power of kW installation of grid connected wind turbines, capable of producing overall a peak-power of 300 kW, representing one fourth of the peak electric power requested by the University
