The Innovation Briefs series provides insights into the most recent policy-relevant research on emerging challenges to sustainable development, with particular attention to their relevance to developing countries. The purpose of this series is to inform policy makers of the latest trends and advances on topics in the field of sustainable development, with the objective of broadening the knowledge base of policy decision-makers in responding to those challenges.
Each issue of the Briefs covers a particular topic from the point of view of applied research. The Briefs aim at being self-contained and non-technical, and are drafted with a view to serving as an introduction to further reading by government staff. Another potential audience are policy advisors and practitioners in development cooperation agencies and non-governmental organizations.
The choice of the topics addressed is mainly determined by their timeliness and importance in the context of ongoing international discussions occurring in the framework of the Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD). The Briefs can also address emerging issues reflected in other contexts, such as the Marrakech Process for Sustainable Production and Consumption.
The information is presented in the form of 8-10 page briefs including boxes, figures and tables.
The series contemplates three to four annual issues.
