At the thirty-sixth session of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), held in Mexico City from 23 to 27 May 2016, the member States adopted resolution 700 (XXXVI), Mexico Resolution, which established the Forum of the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean on Sustainable Development as a regional mechanism to follow up and review the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, including the Sustainable Development Goals and targets, its means of implementation, and the Addis Ababa Action Agenda. The Economic and Social Council subsequently endorsed the establishment of the Forum in its resolution 2016/12.

The first meeting of the Forum of the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean on Sustainable Development will take place in Mexico City on 26-28 April 2017 at the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs of Mexico.
This multistakeholder forum will bring together Latin American and Caribbean governments members of the forum, members of parliament, the United Nations System, financial Institutions and Development Banks, regional and subregional integration organizations, civil society, the private sector and academia.
Its programe will include the presentation of the annual report on regional progress and challenges in relation to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, prepared by the ECLAC secretariat, the presentation of various stakeholders reports, peer learning sessions for the member countries of the Forum presenting their voluntary national reviews, thematic dialogues related to the 2017 HLPF theme on eradicating poverty and promoting prosperity in a changing world in the framework of sustainable development and a Latin American and Caribbean civil society consultation, Multistakeholder side events are also part of the programme.
