    EDUCATION SUSTAINABILITY INITIATIVE (HESI) EVENT

Co-organized by DESA in collaboration with UNESCO, UNEP, UN Global Compact, UNU, UN-Habitat, UNCTAD, and UNITAR, this event provides a space for higher education institutions to showcase how the 2030 Agenda is being integrated into sustainability strategies, research, teaching, and campus practices in partnerships with governments, students and the private sector.

SDGS IN ACTION FILM FESTIVAL

11 July 2019, 6pm-9pm, Conference Room 1, UNHQ

The 2nd SDGs in Action Film Festival, organized by DESA, will feature the six winning short films from a global contest seeking films illustrating work being done towards implementing the SDGs around the world. The 2019 festival features special commendations for youth and virtual reality/360-degree films.

Launch: The State of Food and Nutrition in the World, 2019

The special event will launch The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2019 report, presenting the latest estimates for food insecurity, hunger and malnutrition at global and regional levels. The report’s findings are an important yardstick to measure the world’s progress towards achieving Sustainable Development Goal 2 Zero Hungry by 2030. The event is co-organized by FAO, IFAD, WFP, WHO and UNICEF.

Co-organized by DESA in collaboration with UNOP, SDG Philanthropy Platform, European Foundation Center, Synergos, and the UN Foundation, this event creates a dedicated space to assess philanthropic contributions to SDGs implementation, review good practices and discuss opportunities to scale up transformative impact.

CHIEF SUSTAINABILITY OFFICERS AND SUSTAINABILITY CHAMPIONS EVENT

17 July 2019, 9am-1pm, ECOSOC Chamber

Co-organized by DESA and World Business Council for Sustainable Development, the event convenes sustainable business leaders to explore the challenges that companies are facing with regard to integrating and advancing the 2030 Agenda and to position solutions for accelerating the transition towards a sustainable and inclusive future.

Local Action for Global Commitments

16-17 July 2019, 10am-1pm and 3pm-6pm (both days), Conference Room 11

The UN-wide Local2030 network is facilitating a two-day event focused on local level financing of the SDGs and local implementation of the SDGs under review at the 2019 HLPF. The event will convene and connect experts from the public, private, and non-governmental sectors, local leaders, and representatives from multiple UN agencies.

Democracy & the SDGs

The UN Democracy Fund, in cooperation with the Mo Ibrahim Foundation, organizes this event to step up engagement around advancing Goal 16, and to encourage a thematic discussion of democracy: that while there is no one-size-fits-all model of democracy, and each country must find the model that works for its circumstances, there are fundamental characteristics these models need in common to qualify as democracies.
