Philanthropic actors are leaders in the social and economic development of our communities, and are at the forefront of the recovery and rebuilding in the post pandemic phase. Data-driven approaches have swiftly become priority areas for all sectors and countries around the world, both in the short-term response to the Covid-19 crisis, and for longer-term goals of defining and implementing projects, policy and actions to help achieve the SDGs .
The pandemic has underlined the importance of collecting and sharing relevant data across different sectors and stakeholders. International calls of collaboration around Data have been launched, in the hope of creating more equal, timely, sustainable access to Data across countries and sectors. In a time of increasing public anxiety about our data-driven economy, and of recognition of the need to make data and artificial intelligence more “human centric”, philanthropies can convene conversations around the public value of data, help shape the contours of emergent data markets to include non-profit and social actors, spearhead the creation of new public goods based on data, and spur innovation and economic development. As we enter the last decade of the 2030 Agenda, it is paramount that we extract the full potential from Data in order to make the necessary progress, and philanthropy has an important role to play.
This side event will create a platform for a discussion around the use of Data in the recovery phase of the current pandemic, in preparation for future emergencies, and towards the overall achievement of the SDGs.
