The third annual Multi-stakeholder Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation for the Sustainable Development Goals (STI Forum) will be held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, on June 5 and 6, 2018.
In September 2015, the nations of the world adopted a new set of goals to achieve the well-being of all while protecting the planet by 2030. This ‘2030 Agenda’ contains 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that are designed to shape the global efforts towards attaining these objectives.
Since 2018, an annual review at the United Nations focuses on progress, challenges and lessons learned during implementation and is supported by the STI Forum.
The focus of this review on 2018 will be on five specific SDGs (see below).

Innovators from around the world are invited to submit their scientific and technological solutions to the challenges impeding progress towards at least one of these in-focus SDGs by 4 April 2018 at http://stisolutions4sdgs.globalinnovationexchange.org/
All innovations are welcome and will be reviewed carefully by a group of eminent experts.
Selected innovators will be invited to take part in an exhibition at the STI Forum at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on 5 and 6 June 2018.
Subject to the availability of funds, some limited resources may be made available to support their participation in person.
The Call for Innovations is hosted by the Inter-agency Task Team on STI for the SDGs (IATT) and the 10-Member Group appointed by the United Nations Secretary-General to support the Technology Facilitation Mechanism, in collaboration with the Global Innovation Exchange, a tech platform on a mission to accelerate innovation in developing countries through a central repository of global development innovations, related funding and other critical data. GIE helps social entrepreneurs or innovators fundraise more easily and quickly and connects investors, funders, implementers, practitioners, journalists or researchers, to valuable innovation data and information.
Innovations submitted to the Call will be publicly featured in the Exchange’s searchable database used by press, donors, funders and investors, and will receive access to a comprehensive list of all available innovation funding opportunities across development (more than 200+ million dollars).

The annual STI Forum is a core element of the Technology Facilitation Mechanism negotiated and agreed by the UN member States in 2015. The outcome of the STI Forum feeds into the annual High-Level Political forum (HLPF) which is the annual meeting of UN member States charged with review of implementation of the SDGs until 2030.
The last such Call for Innovations was held for the STI Forum 2017, and the innovations listed below were selected to showcase inspiring solutions to the SDGs. Associated innovators attended the STI Forum at the UN Headquarters in New York, and presented their innovations at a Special Exhibition, as well as at sessions during the Forum.
