The overall aim of the Renewable Energy Plan 2005 - 2010 is to boost renewable energy production to cover 30% of electricity production and 12% of primary energy demand by 2010. The Spanish government's focus on renewable energy sources is also intended to reduce Spain's dependence on oil imports, to further efforts to fulfill the country's Kyoto Protocol commitments and to contribute to the phase-out of the use of nuclear energy.
