Japan introduced the CO2 Tax in 2010.

The introduction of the CO2 Tax was called upon in the Tax Reform Outline approved by the Japanese Cabinet in December 2010. The introduction of the tax is expected to change consumption and production patterns which are not currently equitable or ecologically sustainable.
