Improve energy efficiency. Implement and supply low-carbon technologies and supplies. Develop tools and strategies for sustainable buildings. R&D in adaptation (agriculture, public health).
Bayer (Germany) commits to improve its energy efficiency by reducing specific greenhouse gas emissions by 35% by 2020 (baseline 2005) per metric ton of products sold. New Bayer low-carbon technologies will play an important role in this regard. An innovative technology in chlorine production (ODC-Technology: Oxygene Depolarizes Cathode) will be offered to third parties to exploit the global emission reduction potential of relevant business sectors. Bayer will also continue to support the development of tools and strategies to achieve greater acceptance and adoption of sustainable building practices throughout the world.
Sustainability program with strategic targets; Lighthouse projects including innovation in processes, technologies and products; structured implementation of energy efficiency management in Bayer's subgroups. Employee-related initiatives with targets to increase efficiency and reduce the carbon footprint. Innovative marketing of Bayer products in the field of sustainable construction, lightweight mobility and high-yield agriculture. Innovations in the public health area of vector control.
Specific greenhouse gas emission reduction of the company of -35% per metric ton of products sold (baseline 2005). The company target is based on three subgroup targets, including the following: 1) The Bayer Material Science subgroup is playing a particularly significant role with regard to its intention to cut its greenhouse gas emissions by 40%; 2) Bayer HealthCare is looking to make absolute cuts in these emissions of 10%; and 3) Bayer CropSciences will reduce its emissions of 15%.
