Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA)
Description/achievement of initiative

Through the Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA), achieve energy access for no less than 60% of the African population by 2040.

Implementation methodologies

The NEPAD Agency will work towards securing energy access for Africa's population, especially in rural areas, to adequate modern energy supplies, support other initiatives on energy including increased use of renewable energy, and improve energy efficiency and access to advanced energy technologies including cleaner fossil fuel technologies.

the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) will advance the objectives for Sustainable Energy for All by strengthening its role as the executive agency for the Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA). This joint programme of the African Union, NEPAD and the African Development Bank aims to achieve energy access for no less than 60% of the African population by 2040. To achieve this ambitious goal, the NEPAD Agency will initiate action on 15 regional projects that were selected by African Regional Economic Communities and Power Pools (African utilities).
