Two events were organised around the Global Sustainable Development Report in Paris on 27-28 October, 2016: a multi-stakeholder workshop on the elaboration process and content of the Global Sustainable Development Report (GSDR) and the science-policy interface for the SDGs, held on 27 October 2016 at the Institut d’Etudes Politiques; and a follow-up outreach event on the Global Sustainable Development Report 2016 and the science-policy interface for the SDGs and science-policy interface for the SDGs, held on 28 October 2016 at the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The two events were organized by the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD), the Institut du Développement et des Relations Internationales (Iddri), and the International Science Council (ICSU).

At HLPF 2016, Member States of the United Nations decided that GSDR would be produced every four years, coinciding with the major reviews of progress conducted at the HLPF under the auspices of the General Assembly. The text approved in July defines the main parameters for the production of the report in coming years. In this context, both events aimed to raise awareness of the GSDR and its importance among French-speaking scientists. The workshop provided an occasion to discuss concrete ways in which scientists could contribute to the GSDR process, as well as challenges that may have to be addressed in order to fulfil the report’s mandate. The public event held on 28 October 2016 was intended for sharing messages from the 2016 edition of the report with a broad audience comprising representatives from the political sphere, civil society, business and scientific communities.
