The main objective of the EGM is to provide a platform to discuss major issues related to energy access, renewable energy and energy efficiency and their strong relation to mitigation of impacts from climate change at the global and national levels. More specific objectives include:

• Assess the importance of the successful implementation of SDG7 in relation to climate change.
• Share knowledge on the latest and more innovative low carbon universal energy access options with the least impacts on climate change.
• Discuss the role of renewable energy technologies in mitigating climate change.
• Review potential effective programmes to increase energy efficiency.
