The UN General Assembly, vide resolution 67/212 , adopted in December 2012, decided that one of the special events of the Second Committee, in the 68th session of the UN General Assembly, would be devoted to a joint briefing by UNEP, WIPO, UNESCO, UNCTAD and CBD, on the implementation of the objectives of the Convention on Biological Diversity, including actions undertaken to promote access to genetic resources and the fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from their utilization and associated traditional knowledge. (The objectives of the Convention are the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity and access to genetic resources and the fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from their use.)
