Tuesday, 10 July 2018
1:15 PM - 2:30 PM
Conference Room 12, UNHQ
Side Event
Global Forest Coalition
Linking forest conservation and restoration with sustainable consumption, production, cities and utilities thorough a gender lens (with particular focus on SDG 12 & 15). The event will present inspiring examples of women-led community conservation initiatives that provide an alternative to unsustainable consumption and production patterns triggering forest destruction and environmental pollution. It will discuss how transformative change can be achieved and how the human rights of women, indigenous peoples, local communities and environmental defenders can be protected. The event will look at drivers of deforestation and environmental pollution.
• Should Agenda2030 have protection of Women Human Rights and Environmental Defenders as a priority - like the Escazu agreement?
• Should SDG 12 promote a moratorium on mining?
• Should SDG 15 call for a stop to biofuel subsidies?
• Should a larger share of funding for sustainable development be earmarked for community and women-led solutions?
