Side Event

UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development official side event

The COVID19 pandemic has brought economic and social turmoil and tragedy, bringing a new dimension to risk and responsibility regarding nature. To achieve the 2030 Agenda, states must deliver transformational, green recovery packages (focusing on both finance and policy change) which include nature-based solutions to address health risks, climate change and biodiversity loss. The UN, 75 years on in a world transformed and impacted by environmental degradation, must equally focus on a healthy and sustainable environment, rebalancing our relationship with nature. Case studies and perspectives from different stakeholders will inform a facilitated discussion on "Protecting the planet and building resilience".

Convened by BirdLife International, with panellists including the Executive Director of the UN Environment Programme, the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights and the environment, the World Economic Forum, Forest and Bird of New Zealand and the Ministry of Environment and Energy of Costa Rica.
