Indigenous communities worldwide own millions of acres of land. Its optimized use such as agriculture represent a significant opportunity for accelerated improvement of the socio-economic benefits to individuals and communities. This side event through the joint efforts of CANEUS and intergovernmental organizations GEO and FILAC, supported by experts from NASA, Conservational International and Agriculture Canada attempts to develop experiences and methodologies to standardize use of EO data through series of scalable land management projects especially for agricultural land holdings. The outcome would assist communities to transition from leasing to actively managing/operating land with opportunities for employment, skills training and development.
