"The slogan of “Leave No One Behind” is much more relevant now than ever before due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The Pandemic is not only taking lives ruthlessly across the globe, but also hitting the economy very hard leaving the people jobless and income-less. Many people are already slipping below the poverty line and it will further push many more to deep poverty as we emerge out of this situation. The theme of this year HLPF, “Realizing the decade of action and delivery for sustainable development”, will be a far cry, which is being fast realized. It has brought new challenges to the global leaders to meet their commitments. The organizations taking part of this event are involved in the civil society consultations on the SDGs vis-à-vis VNR processes. The speakers will bring forth the cases of adverse impact of the pandemic on the poorest and vulnerable. The event will reflect upon the situation and will critically introspect upon our engagement with the economic development. It will also reflect upon the accountability mechanisms of the Agenda 2030 including the VNR process itself, which is a primary tool of accountability. It will discuss the ways ahead to achieve the SDGs so that we avert situations like the COVID 19 and its impact. Our focus of discussion will be on SDG 1, SDG 2, SDG 5, SDG 10 and SDG 13 and SDG 16 apart from the general discussion on the Agenda 2030 framework.
