As the COVID-19 crisis has made clear, the world has reached a critical moment in its relationship to nature. Recent assessments from IPBES and the IPCC have shown that biodiversity loss, climate change impacts and land degradation are taking place at an unprecedented level. Addressing these problems will require us to set clear global priorities for the “what”, “how” and “where” of biodiversity conservation. To chart a way forward, Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) have established an Open-ended Working Group (WG2020) to develop a Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework to be adopted at the fifteenth Conference of the Parties (COP 15) in Kunming, China.
