Mercator Ocean International (MOI) in partnership with Sulitest and UNDESA

Oceans are the largest Earth’s ecosystem. Over three billion people depend on marine and coastal resources for their livelihoods. They are also the primary regulator of the global climate. To address the lack of Ocean Literacy, MOI has partnered with Sulitest and UN DESA to produce a module of questions about SDG 14 for the Sulitest educational platform.

This session will offer a roundtable called “We are all Oceans citizens” organised by Mercator Ocean International and SULITEST, moderated by UN DESA with representatives of policymakers, academics/science, Business, NGOs & international organizations.

Background:
A year ago, SULITEST and Mercator Ocean International (Moi) in partnership with UN DESA have launched the SULITEST SDG14 project during the High-Level Political Forum 2020, SDG Learning and Training 2020’s Session 5 Global Environmental Commons.

A team of fifteen experts from the worlds of ocean science, ocean policy and ocean advocacy have met several times since, sharing their experiences and standpoints, with the objective of building a commonly agreed MCQ on SDG 14, accessible to any citizens be they beginners in ocean topics or not.

Step by step, the project team has built the very first educational module dedicated to SDG14 and its short version (quiz), meant to raise interest and increase knowledge of citizens, of the youth, of future decision and policymakers in ocean conservation and sustainability.

Because we are all Ocean Citizens.
