Recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic cannot be separated from the implementation of the sustainable development goals with a rights-based approach. Building back better, fairer and greener requires collaboration between nations and generations. As part of the recommendations made at the 75th anniversary of the United Nations, the Secretary General called for “listening and working with young people to respond to current and future challenges”. Children, need to be heard on the issues that affect them and engaged in finding solutions. The 2021 HLPF is an opportunity for children and youth from diverse regions and backgrounds to share their experiences, ideas, and actions in their communities to recover stronger and achieve the SDGs and be listened to by key decision makers.

This side event will feature children and youth experiences, perspectives, and activism on pressing challenges such as education and digital connectivity, climate and the environment, mental health and child protection. The event will also feature government partners who have been working with children and youth on their SDG implementation and/or other national plans.
