Virtual (NY Time)

Side Event

Forum for Women in Democracy and Reproductive Health Uganda

The event seeks to create a platform for sharing best practices and lessons learnt in building women’s resilience to COVID-19 shocks. With evidence of the socio-economic impacts of COVID-19 pandemic showing deepened inequalities and persistent violations of the rights of women and girls and further exposed acutely disadvantageous conditions that make women more vulnerable to the effects of pandemics. The event therefore, catalyzes actions and fosters virtual spaces for women led organizations to exchange and share information, and offer stakeholders an update on evidence-based gender transformative resilient approaches needed to sustain gender equality a reality despite the COVID19 crisis.

Featuring well experienced panelists from the Uganda Gender Consortium on SDGs (UGCS) which complements efforts of monitoring and reporting on gender equality, we believe at the end of the event, participants shall borrow from FOWODE’s tested experiences and strategies in responding to COVID-19 with a particular focus on women’s economic empowerment models.

It is further expected that the event will harvest a set of key messages on challenges and potential solutions regarding specific primary and secondary impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic faced by vulnerable women. Applying a gender lens throughout the discussions, the session seeks to propose areas where stakeholders may play a key role and be effective drivers for resilient economic initiatives that promote women well-being amidst the pandemic.
