Information on the purpose of your organization

Swadhikar and its campaign National Campaign on Dalit Human Rights is a forum committed to the elimination of discrimination based on caste. A democratic secular platform led by Dalit women and men activists, with support and solidarity from movements and organizations, academics, individuals, people?s organizations and institutions throughout the country who are committed to work to protect and promote human rights of Dalits focusing on women and children.

Swadhikar has contributed in achievement of the MDG, with intent on an inclusive model of development. NCDHR works in favour of achieving proper and sound service delivery for Dalit community, who are always the receiving end of the discriminatory practices related to service delivery, especially in Sustainable Development and Disaster Risk Management. Swwadhikar is been actively participating with the Post 2015 Sustainable Development Goals and Targets discussions and providing insights to the exclusive inclusion of the model in the states keeping tab with the Dalit and Tribal issue on forefront. Preparation of the Benchmarking the Draft UN Principles and Guidelines on the Elimination of (Caste) Discrimination based on work and Descent of India, Bangladesh and Nepal. Our Women?s wing (AIDMAM) has been working with UN Women in empowering Dalit women with training and workshops for their personal and community development. NCDHR initiated a focused effort for establishing the significance and relevance of Dalit agenda in South Asia for future success of the Post 2015 Sustainable Development Goals. Swadhikar with its South Asian partners combined to form a South Asian Dalit Network for addressing issues which failed in tackling during MDG era. The Asian Dalit Rights Forum (ADRF) looks forward to Post 2015 SDGs for bringing an impactful change in South Asian countries especially in the case of Dalits and marginalized communities. Although NCDHR primarily focus on equitable development and distribution in India, the partnership with various organizations like ADRF and TAP network, we have now addressing the issue in South Asian regional and Global level respectively.
Information on activities at the national or international levels
NCDHR is a movement for ensuring the civil, political, social, economic and legal rights to the traditionally excluded communities of Dalits. We have worked nationally on establishing targeted developmental measures for upliftment of more than 201 million dalits living in the country. Our main work can be categorized into : atrocities monitoring and access to justice; legal, social and political rights; availing targeted budget through SCSP/TSP; Working dalit women for their socio-political, legal and economic up liftment; Education rights and Dalit inclusion in disaster risk reduction. In international level we partner with other Dalit and like minded organizations for highlighting the issues of exclusion of 260 million dalits worldwide. With ADRF, we have worked towards eliminating caste based exclusion in the South Asian countries of Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka and also in Japan. Swadhikar and ADRF has participated in various UN Intergovernmental Negotiations on Post 2015 SDG for recognizing and inclusion of Caste based exclusion in the final document. We were the first to bring out report on the analysis of the Nepal Earthquake (with Dalit perspective).
