Atlas Corps, started in 2006, is an international network of nonprofit leaders and organizations that promotes innovation, cooperation, and solutions to address the world?s 21st century challenges. Our mission is to address critical social issues by developing leaders, strengthening organizations, and promoting innovation through an overseas fellowship of skilled nonprofit professionals. Profiled as a ?best practice? in international exchange by the Brookings Institution and World Economic Forum, featured in the Washington Post and Forbes as a model social entrepreneurship program, and recognized as a Top 10 International Voluntary Exchange Program by the U.S. Center for Citizen Diplomacy, Atlas Corps engages leaders committed to the nonprofit sector in 6 to 18 month, professional fellowships at organizations (like Ashoka, Peace Corps, and Nike Foundation) to learn best practices, build organizational capacity, and return home to create a network of global changemakers. Our network of Fellows includes more than 300 nonprofit leaders from 70 countries and 130 Host Organizations. Recently, we launched a State Department partnership as part of a White House Initiative to engage 100 civil society leaders in our Fellowship - Emerging Global Leaders Initiative-Atlas Corps Fellowship.

he Atlas Corps Fellowship is a 6 to 18 month fellowship offered three times a year (January, May, & September). Fellows serve at Host Organizations working on issues that complement their expertise?an Indian nonprofit leader serves at a youth development organization in Washington, DC, that promotes girls? leadership. Fellows learn leadership skills while sharing effective practices. Fellows supplement daily knowledge with theoretical topics presented in the Atlas Corps Global Leadership Lab. Once selected, Fellows serve at organizations in the United States or Colombia.

Typical Fellow Profile: The average Fellow is 29 years old with 2-10 years of experience. All Fellows are fluent in English and possess a college degree, with 65% having additional postgraduate education. Our Fellows are diverse, representing every major religion, five continents, and numerous racial and ethnic backgrounds. Of our Fellows, 75% are female and 100% of our alumni return to their country?s nonprofit sector after the fellowship to implement the best practices learned from the experience, strengthening their home communities. The acceptance rate for Fellows is approximately 2%.

Host Organizations:
Atlas Corps seeks organizations located in the United States to host nonprofit leaders from overseas in a 12 to 18 month professional fellowship. All Fellows have 2 to 10 years of experience, bachelors or graduate degrees, and are fluent in English. Host Organizations provide a cost share that supports 70% of the overall Fellowship expenses. Atlas Corps handles all logistics including travel, J-1 visa, health care, living stipend, and orientation. Atlas Corps generally partners with nonprofit organizations, though this opportunity is also open to socially-responsible corporations and government agencies. Host Organizations include: Ashoka, GlobalGiving, Grameen Foundation, Oxfam, Susan G. Komen, UN Foundation, U.S. Peace Corps, and WWF.
Information on activities at the national or international levels
The Atlas Corps Network includes more than 300 individuals from 70 countries who have served at 130 Host Organizations. The key project activities of the Atlas Corps Fellowship include:
1. Recruitment consists of outreach to applicable emerging professionals from around the world through an online application system.
2. Host Placement is a 2,000-hour (12-month) placement in U.S. organizations focused on leadership development through the engagement of Fellows in nonprofit, private, and government entities in which Fellows gain new skills in a professional context.
3. Global Leadership Lab (Internal & External Trainings)
a. The Internal Training consists of 200 hours of in-person/virtual management training. Presenters include staff from American Red Cross, InsideNGO, Peace Corps, State Department, Case Foundation, and USAID. In addition, training includes participation in advocacy days and activities.
b. The External Trainings connects Fellows to well-known gatherings such as: CARE Conference, Clinton Global Initiative, Global Diaspora Forum, and InterAction Summit. Trainings also include membership in networks like: International Exchange Alumni and Young Professionals in Foreign Policy (YPFP).
4. Community Leaders is a global network of Atlas Corps finalists virtually connected through LinkedIn for structured professional development and organic discussion.
5. Alumni Network is ongoing participation in our global network (Fellows and Community Leaders), including virtual and in-person trainings. In addition, Atlas Corps trains Alumni to mentor incoming Fellows.
