Information on the purpose of your organization

NGO/NPO Little Bees International (LBI) targets at empowering women and children in Korogocho slum of Nairobi in Kenya. LBI provides a tangible and practical solution through environment projects to fight against poverty in slum. Making sustainable green community in slum with empowered people is one of our ultimate goal. LBI is implementing various projects to provide a solution to poverty issues in slum community from the environmental perspective and approach. In 2014, LBI implemented recycling project to make women lives infected with HIV in slum more sustainable through the global envrionemnt fund in Japan, which leads to sustainable life stlye of women and held ?Mottainai? environment conservative seminar for enlightening community residents on environment by mobilizing more than 5000 people for it. The slum community is changing now into sustainable manners. The main actors for sustainable development in future is youth. So in this project, LBI forcus on youth environment education for sustainable development.
Information on your programmes and activities in areas relevant to the subject of the Summit and in which country or counties they are carried out.
Our actions cover the fields of gender, girls education, quality education, health care projects, sustainable environment development. In terms of gender projects, LBI promotes recycling projects as an income generating activities for women, especially infected with HIV. For education, LBI implements environment education projects, ESD (education for sustainable development), in cooperation with a community school, Amani Education Center, which accepts street children and HIV orphans in slum. In addition, plating trees is also a core action for greening community for improving environment quality.
LBI works in Korogocho slum located in Nairobi city. Korogoch is the third largest slum in Kenya where around 200,000 people are forced to live under World Bank poverty line of USD 1.25 per day. Korogocho means ?useless? in Swahili. Originally, Korogocho started as a waste site but in 1980s poor and vulnerable people started moving into Korogocho from downtown area in Nairobi. It has been discriminated area for years and many people struggle to get jobs and to put food on the table. Residents of this informal settlement also suffer from HIV & AIDS and many children have no access to education.
Information on activities at the national or international levels
Following the adoption of SDG in UN general assembly, the projects will be able to show a big contribution to promote the sustainable supporting mechanism from international society to slum community by educating Community Environment Workers (CEWs) who can voluntarily implement actions on SDG for community and understand the international standard for SDG and growing up stewards to take the initiative of promoting sustainable development in the grass-roots levels.
Our global network based on international cooperation with multi stakeholders will produce synergy effects on the projects by enforcing the strengthen and the advantage of each partner, which lead to advocacy a slum model for sustainable community development on SDG.
