Emerge For Africa Ltd
Information on the purpose of your organization

Emerge For Africa Ltd works towards addressing the social and cultural norms and gender-based discriminations that impact on girls' education and girls' sexual and reproductive health and rights in the Sub-Saharan Region of Africa. Through the provision of comprehensive and holistic educational and conscientization programmes, our mission is to give alternative opportunities to marginalised girls and maintain a continuous improvement in their socio-economic position within their household, community and within society as a whole. Our main beneficiaries are young mothers aged 12 to 16 who are refused schooling as a result of early pregnancy precipitated by violence against girls.

Our current project - 'Young Mothers' Education and Research Initiative' is in the process of being implemented in Uganda. The project is closely linked to multiple goals of the Post-2015 Development Agenda (goals 2, 3, 4, 5) with particular emphasis on Secure education, health and basic services for all; Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls; and Foster inclusive economic growth, shared prosperity and sustainable lifestyles for all.
Information on activities at the national or international levels
Our activities are taking place in the Wakiso District of Uganda (Central region) and include the development of educational, professional and awareness programmes suited to the specific needs of young mothers in rural settings; the development of collaborative and participatory approaches to girls' education, involving all stakeholders; the generation of mentors and the development of a peer learning model to break the cycle of intergenerational gender-based violence and early pregnancy in Sub-Saharan Africa; the promotion of gender equity and equality at all levels of life; and the promotion of community development through sustainable living conscientization.

Through our project cycle, we aim to carry out extensive gender-based, nationally relevant research on risk factors and causes leading to violence against girls and early pregnancy from which to learn and disseminate best practices more widely throughout Uganda and East Africa, and develop strong and constructive partnerships with government's Ministries, local community-based organisations, women's associations and groups, and other development organisations to better address girls and women's issues.
