Information on the purpose of your organization

Women for a Change, Cameroon (Wfac) is a duly registered women-led human rights advocacy & awareness raising association, grounded in feminist perspectives. Founded in November 2009, to respond to, promote and protect young women's human rights, with particular focus on women/girls sexual & reproductive health rights, leadership and development.

For over 20 months, members of Wfac have led campaigns and rallies that seeks to strengthen and engage young people to meaningfully participate and be actively involved in the post-2015 process. The culminating result from the campaign has been a successful alliances building between youth activists and government officials, through which youth have been able to voice out their aspirations and priorities to government for prioritisation in the post2015 development process.

In line with Wfac's strategy plan of action for 2015-2018, Priority One focuses on Advocacy, campaigns & community outreach. In which it seeks to strengthen national and local advocacy strategies and mechanisms for effective implementation and inclusive domestication of the post2015 development agenda.

Mobilise and build alliance with communities, youth groups and agencies to track, engage the government and hold them accountable in delivering and respecting its commitments to most global and regional treaties, including the newly adopted post-2015 sustainable development agenda.

Strengthen on-going grassroots initiatives, programs and campaigns that addresses sexism, gender stereotypes and misconception in and out of schools, communities and in the public

Information on activities at the national or international levels
Wfac played a significant role in the action2015 campaign, in popularising and mobilising public participation, particularly engaging youth and women in the post2015 campaign, mobilisation and deliberations at national, regional and global level.

Between January to May, 2015, Women for a Change, Cameroon (Wfac) has reached out to approximately 2million young people, especially women, girls and children, students and non student, through social media, text messaging , SMS, peer-to-peer education, radio/Tv talks, public expo. Our activities have featured in 10 different print medias, each having a readership of at least 200 000 - 2million people of all walks of life.

Wfac has also successfully organised and held over 20 community outreach programs, action campaigns, intergenerational dialogues, and public forums, all geared towards mobilising citizens, raising their awareness, and building alliances to engage government officials to adopt truly ambitious and inclusive post-2015 development agenda that addresses climate change, poverty, inequality and injustice.

At the international level, Wfac has been engaged in the post-2015 development process for over two years, from the ICPD Beyond 2014 and the Open Working Group process to the intergovernmental negotiations. As an Organizing Partner for the Action2015 and active member of the Major Group for Children and Youth, Wfac has engaged in advocacy to define the agenda by working closely with partners and coalitions to ensure support for a comprehensive, rights-based agenda. We have advocated with governments and UN agencies to ensure our priorities are heard.
