Information on the purpose of your organization

The IAI is an intergovernmental instrument by which scientists and decision makers of countries throughout the Americas jointly address the critical issues associated with global change in the region. The mission of IAI is to develop the capacity of understanding the integrated impact of past, present and future global change on regional and continental environments in the Americas and to promote collaborative, well-informed actions at all levels. The IAI pursues the principles of scientific excellence, international cooperation and full and open exchange of scientific information relevant to global environmental change.
Information on your programmes and activities in areas relevant to the subject of the Summit and in which country or counties they are carried out.
IAI funds multinational collaborative global change research networks throughout its 19 member countries in the Americas, and several capacity-building initiatives. Both research and capacity-building activities are directly linked to several of the proposed sustainable development goals, namely: end poverty in all its forms everywhere, end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture, ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages, ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all, ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all, take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts, make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable, conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development, protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss. Furthermore, IAI is a partner in the Global Project Everyone Campaign to create awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals.
Information on activities at the national or international levels
IAI is actively engaged as a partner in the Global Project Everyone Campaign to create awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals. IAI is also an observer to the UNFCCC and contributes to discussions on Science and Research at meetings of the SBSTA and COP. Likewise, IAI works with the UN Convention on Biological Diversity and collaborates with UNESCO, UNDP and several other UN agencies. IAI promotes training and capacity-building activities at the national level and funds multinational collaborative research projects. Results from these activities are reported to the IAI Conference of the Parties and other international conferences.
