Information on the purpose of your organization

As a non-religious, non-political, and non-partisan advocacy NGO, Commonwealth Information & Action Network (CIAN) is dedicated to defend and deal with issues related to governance, and those aimed at improving human rights situation in Nigeria.

With this purpose, our mission is to foster a culture of communication and resourcing of citizen's action for social change, especially where citizen's human rights, citizen economic rights, and the commonwealth for public benefits are threatened.
Information on your programmes and activities in areas relevant to the subject of the Summit and in which country or counties they are carried out.
- We serve as a catalyst for strengthening and enhancing the integrity of Nigerian electoral process, particularly the just concluded 2015 general election via public awareness and civic education, in addition to election monitoring and observances.

- And, through a combination of constitution guarantees and the instruments of FAO Guideline on Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests, as well as the Maastricht Principles on Extraterritorial Obligation; defended socio-economic rights of a forest community of Mgbidi-Ogu local government in Enugu state in Nigeria against a planned land grab and forced eviction from a TNC company.
Information on activities at the national or international levels
In the absent of no legislation to regulate the Nigerian gas industry against gas flaring; we are currently lobbying and engaging through advocacy, the newly elected congress members and the policy community for the initiation of a gas industry bill, intended to substantially reduce green house emission in the Nigeria oil rich Niger-Delta area, as well as protect Nigerians and their environment from artificial hazards, in addition to possibly attracting companies in advanced societies seeking carbon reduction credit under the Kyoto Protocol program of emission trading.
