Prime Initiative for Green Development
Information on the purpose of your organization

The organization Prime Initiative for Green Development (PIGD) is registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria as a non-political, non-profit making and non-governmental organization, with a mission to champion the effort of eradicating environmental hazards by creating Environmental awareness on Climate Change, Environmental Pollution, Waste Management, Green Energy and Agriculture, Safety Training on Environment Hazards, Youth Development.

Prime Initiative for Green Development (PIGD) was established in Nigeria with the aim of building an environment free of pollution and help to achieve the Millennium Development Goal 7 (MDG) in the country, which is to ensure environmental sustainability. The organization implements her programs through sensitization, awareness, education, advocacy and lobbying of policy makers to see the change we desire in our society.

To see Nigeria where young people are responsible for environmental sustainability.
? To champion the effort of eradicating environmental hazards and ensuring good governance in Nigeria.
? Sustainable use of natural resources and improved environmental quality
? To deliver and improve access to high-quality weather, climate, water and related environmental prediction, information to user? needs, and to enable their use in decision-making by relevant societal sectors.
? To improve access to information and empower local communities in Nigeria.
? Strengthen local communities by creating platforms for dialogue, enabling informed debate,
? Building capacities of marginalized communities which ensured social and economic progress while promoting transparency and accountability.

Prime Initiative for Green Development (PIGD) conducted training in Niger Delta Science School, Port Harcourt, Nigeria, on environmental awareness and climate change, with one hundred students (100) in attendance. The Initiative also organized Environmental clean-up in the school. The program bordered on Advocating protection of the environment, i.e., supporting or promoting the protection of the environment.
The presenter dwelt on basic facts about the challenges facing our environment today, the possible outcomes of these environmental menaces if they are left unchecked, and the ways in which all of us could help salvage our environment.
A practical session to put the things that were learned in the paper presentation was carried out by the participants. This involved Tree planting and environmental sanitation activity (picking exercise), using the polythene that was provided by Prime Initiative for Green Development (PIGD). Both activities were carried out wearing latex hand gloves also provided by the association. The students were conducted to the waste disposal site where they carefully disposed the wastes collected around the school environment.
To help salvage the environment, the following key points were suggested by the presenter:
? STOP BURNING/ STOP BUSH BURNING , DON?T LITTER WASTES
? SOLID WASTE SHOULD ONLY BE DISPOSED OF AT APPROVED DUMPS
? PLANT FLOWERS, PLANT TREES
? CUT DOWN A TREE, PLANT 10 ? IF THERE?S AN IMPORTANT NEED TO CUT DOWN A TREE, AND THEN PLANT TEN. THE TREES AT MATURITY SHOULD BE ABLE TO COVER UP THE VACUUM CREATED BY THE FELL ONE.
? REPLACE OZONE DEPLETING CHEMICALS WITH THE ENVIRONMENTAL FRIENDLY ONES.
? DO NOT SMOKE- CIGARETTE, CAR FUMES, GENERATORS- BUY FUEL EFFICIENT MACHINES. QUICKLY REPLACE OR WORK ON MACHINES WHEN THEY START SMOKING MORE THAN BEFORE.
? FOR YOUR HEALTH, DON?T KEEP GENERATORS CLOSE TO RESIDENCE.
Also, youth and others should be discourage from bunkering activities and pipeline vandalization as most of these results in fires that generate carbon (IV) Oxide-A Greenhouse gas (GHG?don?t stop until the nation is green!

SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITYDEVELOPMENT
INITIATIVE WITH RENEWABLE ENERGY SOLAR WATER PUMPING BOREHOLE
AIM/OBJECTIVE: TO PROVIDE PORTABLE WATER TO THE ENTIRE COMMUNITIES AND GENERAL PUBLIC 24/7 IN NIGER DELTA REGION
BENEFICIARIES: INDIGENE AND NON INDIGENE OF AZUABIE-OKUJAGU COMMUNITY OF ABOUT 40,000 PEOPLE

Energy, it is an essential ingredient for socio-economic development and economic growth. The objective of the energy system is to provide energy services. Energy services are the desired and useful products, processes or indeed services that result from the use of energy, such as for lighting, provision of air-conditioned indoor climate, refrigerate storage, transportation, appropriate temperatures for cooking etc. The energy chain to deliver these cited services begins with the collection or extraction of primary energy, which is then converted into energy carriers suitable for various end-uses. These energy carriers are used in energy end-use technologies to provide the desired energy services.

With the worsening environmental degradation brought about by factors such as climate change, the world is shifting focus from traditional energy to renewable energy, particularly in efforts to meet the energy needs of rural communities.

Analysts note that most rural communities in Rivers State have suffered a lot on access to pure portable water in the area due to heavy activities of Oil Companies around the region. Provision of drinkable water has been a longstanding problem in Rivers State, with reliance in many regions on water pumped from boreholes that are privately owned, or sponsored or developed by government. In all of these cases, there has been perpetual instability because of the cost of operating boreholes when grid electricity is either unreliable or entirely absent.

Boreholes in rural areas are normally reliant on generators, which are expensive to maintain and operate. Failures of water supply within relatively short time periods are very widespread in many parts of the country, particularly the Niger Delta.

The Niger Delta (Rivers State) has been experimenting with solar-powered water boreholes and it has been a direct challenge to the region?s reputation for being ?too cloudy? for effective use of solar power. The Center has been able to demonstrate model water boreholes developed around several key principles and provide direct evidence against the ?too cloudiness? of the region. The said design Solar Energy borehole water supplies relies on simplicity at all stages. Many solar systems use on a combination of panels, charge controllers, batteries and inverters to capture, store and then use solar-powered electricity.
