Pacific Islands Association of Non Governmental Organisations (PIANGO)
Information on the purpose of your organization

The Pacific Islands Association of Non-Governmental Organisations (PIANGO) is a regional network of NGO focal points or coordinating bodies known as National Liaison Units (NLUs) based in 22 Pacific Island countries and territories. PIANGO was formally established in 1991 to assist NGOs in the Pacific to initiate action, give voice to their concerns and work collaboratively with other development actors for just and sustainable human development. PIANGO's primary role is to be a catalyst for collective action, to facilitate and support coalitions and alliances on issues of common concern, and to strengthen the influence and impact of NGO efforts in the region.

PIANGO is presently part of the Beyond 2015 campaign, as the Pacific Regional Coordinator. In its role as Regional Coordinator it coordinates, activities of National Lead Agencies run within 5 countries of the Pacific specifically Fiji (Fiji Council of Social Services), Samoa (Samoa Umbrella for NGOs), Solomon Islands (Development Services Exchange), PNG (PNG Education Advocacy Network), and Kiribati (Kiribati Climate Action Network). PIANGO has acted as Pacific Regional Coordinator for Beyond 2015 since January 2014, as prior to this the Pacific was not represented within the campaign. As Regional Coordinator, it has, in addition to coordinating NLA activities, convened workshops & dialogues in the different Pacific island countries (Fiji, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Guam, & Kiribati) focusing on the Post 2015 development agenda, sourcing Civil society voices and linking them to their Governments for a more holistic approach by Pacific Island States to the 2030 agenda. PIANGO was also heavily involved in the SIDS Conference in Samoa, co-hosting side events focusing on Youth, Women and Pacific Civil Society. Further to the Beyond 2015 campaign, PIANGO also as part of its own Strategic Plan has a focus of ?Rethinking Development, Reshaping the Pacific We Want? ? gearing towards Pacific 2030. It has aligned its strategic thinking to the #post2015 development agenda accordingly.

At the same time, the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat will be convening a CSO Forum which PIANGO will again be part of. However prior to the PIFS CSO Forum, PIANGO will be hosting a CSO Forum in September to bring together Pacific Civil society for a united voice on different issues of importance to the Pacific ? including amongst other things the 2030 agenda, Climate Justice, Self determination & decolonisation in the Pacific (West Papua/New Caledonia), etc.
