Information on the purpose of your organization

The Centre for Social Equity and Inclusion (CSEI) is concerned with deepening democracy and in our body politic through enhancing the participation and enjoyment by socially excluded communities, their social, economic and cultural (SEC) rights. Our mission in particular is to promote the SEC rights of children and youth from Dalit, Tribal and Religious Minority communities through advocating for inclusive policies and provisions and promoting equitable outcomes. We work in collaboration with community-led organisations for the realisation of their rights to participation, education, skills training, employment and entrepreneurship.

CSEI has its headquarters in Delhi and has a state office in Bihar in India. In addition we are networked with community-led organisations of the Dalits, Tribals and Muslim minority communities across 10 states in India. We are also informally networked with similar organisations across South Asia as the South Asia Equity Forum and the Asia Dalit Rights Forum.
Our work includes eliminating extreme poverty, promoting human rights and social inclusion of socially excluded communities, promoting the right to education and reducing gender discrimination in education. We actively engage in the Global Campaign Against Poverty (GCAP) and is steering group member of the Wada Na Todo Campaign that represents the GCAP in India. We have been engaged with the MDG, promoting children and youth participation in it. We are currently campaigning for the #UPforSchool campaign in India and been actively engaged in the UNSDG process and ACtion 2015 in India.
Information on activities at the national or international levels
CSEI emerged out of the members location within the socially excluded communities and their long involvement in the civil and political rights of the Dalit communities. Since 2008, we began our focus on children and young people across Dalit and other socially excluded communities in India and South Asia. We take up policy research on issues of social exclusion and equity for advocacy with the state and private sector. CSEI conducts capacity building programmes for community-led and civil society organisations on social equity audits on different development rights. We promote Education Resource Centres for children, and Youth Tech Hubs for young people. In addition we develop leadership and learning materials from the equity-inclusion lens. We are networked in India on various development issues - particularly education and youth development. CSEI is also a member of government committees with the Ministry of Human Resource Development in India.At the South Asia level we are informally networked for capacity building and advocacy.
