Information on the purpose of your organization

To research, design, apply and evaluate communal intervention models that respond to the particular conditions and necessities of the Mexican communities that we are working with. We seek to promote public policies and actions that foster sustainable development with the ultimate purpose of improving the social, economic and environmental conditions of rural and urban communities. To achieve this, we carry out:
? Develop Social Research and use it as a tool to get close to all dimensions of social reality and to the processes of social intervention through problem conceptualization, data gathering and theorical analysis. We put an emphasis on knowledge development from the context of the participating population of our project. In a few words, we develop a model that focus on the participation of the community and on action.
? Strengthen other organizations; we focus on empowering community dynamics towards sustainable development through the development of active minorities as an instrument of social change.
? Promote and strengthen collective actions and the mobilization community networks through the development of training, sensibilization and knowledge space with social actors within communal contexts, centered on sustainable development.
? Advocacy to promote objectives centered on sustainable development.
Information on your programmes and activities in areas relevant to the subject of the Summit and in which country or counties they are carried out.
Altepetl had participated in diverse actions related to the subject of the Summit:

? We are members of the Action 2015 Campaign, integrated by 45 NGOs in Mexico. We have acted together to give follow up on the post 2015 devleopment agenda,where we have seek to ensure that our leaders set and fund ambitious goals to tackle the challenges and achieve sustainable development, especially seeking agreements to reduce inequality in Mexico. Through Action 2015, we have collaborated with other international and Mexican NGOs to foster citizens to participate in this global process through different workshops and campaigns.


? Focusing on youth, civil society and rural communities, we have developed various activities to include their voice in the post-2015 development agenda. With this objective, we have developed a consultation with 330 Mexican youth from 18 to 30 years old from 27 Mexican states to reflect and generate proposals on how to incorporate the youth perspective in the post 2015 development agenda, which is a key point to ensure that the present and the future doesn?t leave anyone behind.

? We have seek to the inclusion of Mexican civil society in the international agendas and spaces, in partnership with the International Action for Development Coalition (CAIDMEX for short), we have developed workshops in three cities (Mexico city, Guadalajara and Oaxaca) to discuss the relationship between civil society and effective cooperation for development in the framework of the Post 2015 Agenda, seeking to place as an actor and an strategic ally for international cooperation for development.

Information on activities at the national or international levels
At a national level, Altepetl has carried out diverse activities to promote sustainable development and human rights in both urban and rural contexts:

? Each year, we develop a university brigade for community work, where youth travel to different environmental protected areas to strengthen organizations bases in the visited communities.
? We develop forums with Mexican youth to promote their participation as strategic actors for development such as the regional forums and one national forum with indigenous youth that we carried out in partnership with the Embassy of the United States of America.
? We developed education spaces focus on the development of knowledge about sustainable development, human rights, citizenship and peace.
? We have promoted a quality education as a human right through the process of the federal educational reform and the follow up after it.
? We develop community intervention workshops with urban youth.
? We have created spaces, so that Mexican youth and German youth can shared best practices related to the participation of youth for sustainable development.


At the international level, Altepetl A.C. is a founding member of the International Action for Development Coalition (CAIDMEX for short). This coalition is integrated by international and national NGOs based in Mexico through this network, we seek to advocate collectively in international agendas and spaces related to sustainable development and human rights.
Altepetl A.C. supports the collective effort to reach the following specific objectives:
? To foster the inclusion of Mexican civil society in the international agendas and spaces.
? To place Mexican civil society as an actor of global governance and as an strategic ally for international cooperation for development.
? To strengthen Mexican civil society capacities through global citizenship
? To advocate in the Mexican Foreign Policy and foster the fulfillment of the obligations adopted in international agreements by the Mexican government related to development and human rights.
? To create bridges in the local and global agendas
To achieve the former objetives, Altepetl has supported the collective effort through the following actions:
? We have developed a workshops in three cities (Mexico city, Guadalajara and Oaxaca) to discuss the role of civil society for international cooperation for development
? We have participated at the first High-Level Meeting of the Global Partnership for Effective Development Co-operation in April, 2014
? We have participated at the C-20 in Australia.
? We have developed workshops in three cities (Mexico city, Guadalajara and Oaxaca) to discuss the relationship between civil society and effective cooperation for development in the framework of the Post 2015 Agenda

Altepetl is also an active member of the Popular Education Council in Latin American and the Caribbean
