Human Appeal International [UK]
Information on the purpose of your organization

Human Appeal International UK (HAI-UK) was formed and registered in 1991 with the vision of a just, caring and sustainable world free of poverty. In 2013, HAI-UK acquired the dual status through conversion process by registering itself under the Limited Company and the Charity Commission in England and Wales simultaneously. As a result of this conversion, Human Appeal International exists as a separate legal 'person' from its members and directors, and therefore the debts it incurs are the company's liabilities and not directly the legal liabilities of the people who run it.

The aims and purposes of Human Appeal International UK are as under:

1. The prevention or relief of poverty anywhere in the world by providing grants, items and services to individuals in need and/or charities or other organizations working to prevent or relieve poverty;
2. The prevention or relief of poverty or financial hardship anywhere in the world by providing or assisting in the provision of education, training, healthcare projects and all the necessary support designed to enable individuals to generate a sustainable income and be self-sufficient;
3. The relief of financial need and suffering amongst victims of natural or other kinds of disasters in the form of money or other means deemed suitable for persons, bodies, organizations and/or countries affected, including the provision of medical aid.

Sustainable development is the core area of competency of HAI-UK. Millions of people around the world are born into a life of poverty caused by overpopulation, inadequate education and job opportunities as well as other societal and economical defects. If a child survives infancy, his life is flooded with endless struggles; he grows up without access to basic necessities such as food, education, healthcare and the opportunity to sustain a steady livelihood. It is estimated that currently up to 1.4 billion people around the world live in extreme poverty, of which an estimated 600 million are children. 925 million people live in hunger with approximately 25,000 dying each day from hunger related causes. A further 7.8 million children die each year from preventable diseases before they reach the age of five.

HAI-UK believes that by implementing sustainable development projects, undoubtedly counteracts the immediate effects of poverty. By investing in income generation programmes including business start up grants, vocational training and the rehabilitation of agricultural land, HAI empowers individuals, allowing them to earn their way out of poverty. Girls and boys are able to take on their parents businesses or develop the skills and tools they need to start their own. By creating jobs, families not only support themselves but also the local economy and industry. This in turn forms independent, self-sustaining communities for generations to come.

HAI works in over 24 countries in Asia, Africa and Middle Eastern region. The main countries where HAI has sustainable development projects are Pakistan, Bangladesh, Senegal, Palestine, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Lebanon, Libya
