The African Social Development Review 2011: Advancing the Social Development Priorities of ECA, AUC and AU-NEPAD Program
UNECA, 2011
by: Economic Commission for Africa (ECA)

THIS THE SECOND issue of Africa?s Social Development Review (ASDR). Like its predecessor, this issue focuses on the social development priorities of the African Union Commission and the AU New Partnership for Africa?s Development program (AU-NEPAD program). ASDR aims to advocate for social development in the continent, through documenting best practices and evidenced based policy analyses. Particularly, it emphasizes the role of social integration, social protection, social cohesion and harmony in peace and stability for development in the continent. Also, it underlines the high costs of vulnerability, marginalization, and exclusion of social groups from economic and social development activities and services in Africa. In this context ASDR supports the implementation of Social Policy Framework for Africa developed by the African Union Commission and approved by the 1st session of the AU Conference of Ministers in Charge of Social Development held in Windhoek, Namibia, 27-31 October 2008. Also, it supports the AU-NEPAD program priorities in the areas of social and human development priorities.
