Description/achievement of initiative
ENERGIA is pleased to be one of the many civil society organizations working to make sustainable energy for all a reality on the ground with a focus on women economic empowerment and gender equality. With the support of our development partners from the governments of Sweden, Norway, the United Kingdom, Finland, Netherlands, and the Asia Development Bank we have committed 13 million euro over the next 5 years to:
* Provide technical and financial assistance to country programmes in Kenya, Tanzania, Senegal, Nigeria, Nepal and Indonesia that strengthen the capacity of over 3000 women led enterprises to deliver energy services to over 2 million rural and remote consumers.
* Implement an empirical research programme, working with leading academic and research institutions in India, Nepal, Bangladesh, South Africa, Kenya, Senegal, Rwanda, and Nigeria, to provide the evidence base, of the value addition of using a gender approach in energy investment.
* Roll out SE4ALL’s campaigns on energy, women children and health, by supporting national level campaigns in Kenya, Tanzania, Senegal, Nigeria, Nepal and Indonesia that raise public awareness and reach out to over four million people.
* Integrate energy access for women in ENERGIA’s contribution to SE4All country action plan and investment prospectus, the Global Tracking Framework and the State of the Access Report (SEAR).
