AES (2nd SE4All Forum Commitments)
Description/achievement of initiative

AES has been focusing on long-term commitments to its stakeholders and on improving their lives by providing safe, reliable and sustainable energy solutions.

Implementation methodologies

Examples of these commitments include:

1. AES has brought electricity for the first time to over 1 million people over the past decade. Thanks to AES’ electrical connections normalization program, over 2.6 million people in Brazilian favelas benefit now from safe and reliable energy, . Furthermore, AES is working to regularize connections for another quarter million people by 2015.
2. AES has been at the forefront of bringing innovation to generating and distributing electricity more efficiently. In 2007, AES found a way to improve speed and efficiency of power grids and make the energy generated from renewable sources more reliable through energy storage. Today, AES is the world’s largest operator of grid-scale advanced battery based energy storage resources.
3. ES currently has over 800 MW of renewable energy projects under construction and development.
