Description/achievement of initiative

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) works towards building a just world that values and conserves nature. IUCN’s Global Gender Office (GGO) strives to provide innovative approaches, technical support, policy development and capacity building to ensure gender equality is central to sustainable global environmental solutions. GGO works in alliance with OLADE, ENERGIA, Hivos and more than 100 organizations gathered in national gender and energy networks and the Central American Alliance for Energy Sustainability to mainstream gender in the energy sector, its policies and national plans. Through the Gender Equality for Climate Change Opportunities (GECCO) initiative, GGO will support the energy sector to be gender responsive by focusing in particular on approaches that bring gender perspectives into large-scale energy infrastructure and to clean investment tools, increasing women's participation in the energy sector, addressing gender indicators for the energy sector and mainstreaming gender into mitigation initiatives (i.e. LEDS and NAMAs).
