Description/achievement of initiative
Since its beginnings, EarthSpark International has been committed to eradicating energy poverty in Haiti through increased energy access, while highlighting renewable energy solutions and energy efficiency.
EarthSpark started Enèji Pwòp in 2010, a Haitian social enterprise helping Haitians reach the first rung of the energy access ladder with solar lighting solutions and efficient cookstoves. Expanding on this program, EarthSpark launched Haiti’s first pre-pay microgrid in 2012, starting with a diesel generator and finally launching a town-sized solar hybrid smart grid serving 430 customers in April 2015.
EarthSpark and Enèji Pwòp commit to building 80 microgrids and having 1.5 million 'clean energy transactions' (sales of clean energy products and microgrid top-ups) in Haiti by 2020.
